Alice Wanda Pay Bateman King

1917 ~ 2017

On October 10, 2017 Alice Wanda Pay Bateman King passed away at the age of 100 in South Jordan, Utah. Alice was born on June 7, 1917 to Edward James Pay, Jr. and Eda Marion Tranter in Nephi, Utah. She was very proud of her pioneer heritage and her great-grandparent's Richard and Mary Goble Pay. Alice spent her childhood in Nephi and the family moved to Salt Lake City where she graduated from high school. She and her husband, Jay S. Bateman, lived in Salt Lake City and owned four jewelry stores, two in SLC, one in Tooele and another in Dugway. They sold the two SLC stores to cover medical costs and moved to Tooele in about 1948. Alice was active in the LDS church, the Lady Lions and other community activities in Tooele. She returned to live in Salt Lake City several years later. Alice's 100th birthday party was in June and the family all gathered and enjoyed her sweetness and great sense of humor.

Alice is preceded in death by her first husband Jay S. Bateman, second husband George King, and two grandsons. She is survived by one son and two daughters; Ronald J. and Gloria Bateman, Springville, UT, Karen A. Nielsen, Salt Lake City, UT, and Linda M. Brandes, Rancho Santa Fe, CA, with 10 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Services will be held Friday, October 20th, 2017, at 11am at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 So. and 1950 East Sandy, Utah 84092). Friends may call at Larkin Sunset Gardens at 10am and visit with family prior to the funeral service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens Cemetery.
