Harold Edward May

1919 ~ 2013

Harold Edward May, age 94, died August 18, 2013 in Salt Lake City, Utah of complications arising from old age. He was born July 5, 1919 in Parker, Turner County, South Dakota to Kathrina Christina Johanna Thompson and Edward Eugene May.

Harold spent his formative years on his parent's 40 acre farm in Parker, South Dakota where he assisted his father in operating the \May Broom Works\ along with running the farm. At the age of 18, he left the farm and moved to Detroit, Michigan. He served four years in the US Army during World War II, participating in five major European battles and was awarded the Bronze Star. Shortly after the war, he married Betty Edna Birk (deceased) in Salt Lake City, Utah. He was an avid sportsman who loved fishing and hunting in the mountains of Utah. He was an amateur radio operator who excelled in electronics, a talented and creative inventor, an accomplished gardener and active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church.

He is survived by his wife Susan; a daughter, Kathy (Steve) Christensen, a son, Lewis (Connie) May; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; step-children: Valerie Perry and Dennis Perry; sisters, Edna Roseanna Brandt (Victor, deceased), Irma Margret Toretta (John, deceased), and his lifelong best friend and buddy, Hal Ray Peacock. Preceded in death by his first wife, Betty, and sister, Ruth Esther Lepiane, (John).

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 23, 2013, 11:00 a.m. at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, 200 \N\ Street, S.L.C., Utah. A brief viewing will be held at Larkin Mortuary, 260 E.
