Gary Ray Linnell

1936 ~ 2014

Gary Ray Linnell, 78, passed away peacefully at his home Sunday, October 5, 2014.

Gary was born May 4, 1936 in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Ray H. and Dorothy Sims Linnell. Gary attended South High School before enlisting in the Marines. After being honorably discharged from the service, Gary found his way to Jackson, Wyoming, where he met and married Mary Ellen May on February 26, 1960.

Gary and Mary returned to Salt Lake City in 1961. He worked for Southeast Ready Mix. He then joined the Pile Drivers Union before starting his 30 year career with Millwright Local #722. He spent many hours with family and friends fishing, hunting and golfing. Gary was a thinker and planner, spending many hours in his garage designing and building unique projects. He was a volunteer for the 2002 Salt Lake Olympic Winter Games. He never missed a birthday, special occasion, dance or piano recital.

Survived by his children, sons Torr (Jane) Linnell, and Bob (Jo) Linnell, daughters Jana (Ramon) Galvan, and Jill (Nathan) Mueller. Also survived by 12 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Gary is survived by his siblings Jim (Carol) Linnell, Larry Linnell, MaryAnn (Lew) Shaw, and LaRae Simmons. Preceded in death by his wife, parents, and sister Nancy Linnell.

Services will be held Thursday, October 9, at 11:00 am, at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. A viewing will be held Wednesday, October 8, from 6:00 ‚8:00 pm, and one hour prior to the funeral service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
