Walter August Westphal

1927 ~ 2017

Walter August Westphal was the second son born to Frederick A. and Paula Breitlander Westphal. They immigrated through Ellis Island in 1923 with his older brother Frederick Heinrich.

Walt graduated from Granite High School in 1944 and studied electronics at Carbon College. He served in the US Army as a Sergeant in the Korean War from 1949 to 1952. Walter was awarded the Korean Service Medal with a Bronze Star.

Following his service, he married his sweetheart Nancy A. Garfield. Together for 59 years they raised four children. Robin Westphal, Melanie Jensen (Terry), Tawna Cummins (Ric), and Wally Westphal. He'll also be missed by seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

He loved life and was engaged until the very end. He especially loved Sam's Club, Costco, and Home Depot. As he lost his eyesight, we spent many hours describing every item on every shelf and answering his many questions.

Walt was a hard worker who loved his job and only missed three days in his 38 years at Mountain Bell. Find another man who's done that! He was a happy man and was blessed with a peaceful passing while surrounded by his family.

Friends may meet with the family on Tuesday, June 20, 2017 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, followed by a graveside service at 12:00 noon with Colorguard.
