Elaine Ardis Guest

1924 ~ 2018

Elaine Ardis Grotjohn Guest was born to Harley and Anna Olson Grotjohn March 13, 1924 in Gary, Deuel County, South Dakota. In keeping with the tradition of her heritage she lived to the grand age of one month shy of 94 years old. She passed from this life on February 13, 2018 to be reunited with her sweetheart just in time for Valentine's Day.

She met Calvin Warren Guest in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at a dance at the USO Club in the spring of 1945 while Cal was serving in the Army Air Corp during WWII. About three months after they met Cal was transferred to Alamogordo, New Mexico and they decided to be married. They were married on October 5, 1945 at the base chapel. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake Temple on June 1, 1948.

Elaine was a convert to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and was a faithful member her entire life serving in many callings. Two of which she spoke of often, were teaching the youth in Sunday school and being a Cub Scout Leader. She served faithfully alongside her husband Calvin while he served as Bishop of the South Highland Park Ward for eight years and Stake President of the State Lake Central Stake for nine years.

As a child on a farm in South Dakota she listened to the Mormon Tabernacle Choir on Sunday with her mother. Mom was a Mormon, but didn't know it. As a young adult she was very close to her numerous aunts and uncles. She listened intently and learned all she could about her family history. Later in life it would serve her well as she became an avid genealogist. During her life she was actively involved in indexing and completed thousands of files.

After her husband passed away in 2002, she sold her home in Salt Lake City and moved to Payson to be close to family. She was preceded in death by her, husband, Calvin, her parents Harley and Anna Grotjohn, her brother Leslie (Bud) Grotjohn and sister Shirley Headrick. She is survived by her children Cheri (Lynn) Strong, San Pan Valley, Arizona; sons David (Kathy) Guest, Payson, Utah; and Douglas (Joyce) Guest. Coalville, Utah. She left a legacy of Fourteen Grandchildren, 30 Great Grandchildren, and three Great, Great Grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers, Darrell and Roger Grotjohn, sisters, Iola Nelson and Betty Gallagher,

Her family would like to thank Richard Porter and the staff at Seasons of Santaquin for their kind loving care given to mom for the past five years. Also thanks to Horizon Home Health and Hospice in these last few months of her life. Also thanks to those who serve in Santaquin 17th Ward Branch at the care center, which helped to make it feel like home.
