Eva Marie Layton

1927 ~ 2015

Eva Marie Weaver Layton, devoted wife, mother, Grammy and Gigi passed away at the age of 87 on July 14, 2015 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She was born December 3, 1927 in Preston, Idaho, the daughter of George St. Clair and Vera Headrick Weaver.

At 2 years of age, her family moved to Sterling, CO and lived on a family farm where she grew up and joined the LDS Church at age 14. Soon after, the Weaver family moved to Salt Lake City where she attended South High School. She met her husband H. Jay Layton at the University of Utah where they graduated together. They married in the Salt Lake Temple on April 16, 1948. She loved and served her family and church. She served in the Cub Scouts, Young Women and as Primary President. She was very active in family genealogy and responsible for the Temple work for over 400 of her personal ancestors. She brought her extended family together through family reunions and holiday parties.

Eva had a talent for interior decorating and flair for fashion. She was an adventurous woman, always willing to try new things and activities, such as waterskiing, snow skiing, tennis, golf, pickle ball and extensive travel.

She will be remembered for her Sunday dinners, costume closet, dressing up on Halloween, tennis trips with her grandsons, puzzles, grilled cheese sandwiches, Easter egg hunts requiring bunny ears, Christmas morning sleigh bells and nativity pageant. Swimming in Bear Lake with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren is a cherished memory even at age 85.

Eva is survived by her husband Jay Layton, her children; Maree Layton Karrasch, Howard J. (Lori) Layton, Blaine W. (Melissa) Layton. Ten grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and two sisters.

A funeral service will be held, Saturday, July 18, 2015 at 1:00 PM in the Olympus Hills Ward (4176 Adonis Drive, Salt Lake). The family will meet with friends on Friday, July 17, 2015 from 6 to 8 PM at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary,(2350 E. 1300 S.) and again prior to services at the church on Saturday from 11:30 AM to 12:45 PM. Interment will be in the Wasatch Lawn Memorial Cemetery.
