Donald Owen Brock

1969 ~ 2014

Donald Owen Brock, 44, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed away peacefully March 30, 2014 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by his family and children.

Don was born and raised in Rahway, New Jersey, son of Robert Louis Brock and Gertruda Johanna Steenbakkers Brock of Meridian, Idaho. During Don's youth he was active in scouting earning the rank of Eagle Scout as well as being active in his Church's youth group, Seminary program, and a member of the Rahway High School soccer and tennis teams. Don was currently employed as a Senior Engineer at G.E. where he worked on managing design, fabrication, and execution of advanced turbine designs. Don attended the University of Utah where he earned a B.S. in mechanical engineering class of ‘97 and an advanced degree, M.S. in mechanical engineering class of ‘98. Prior to joining G.E. Don worked at Boeing as a member of a team helping to develop technologies used in the US space program. Don was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints where he attended the Greenville Fifth Ward he served in various capacities at his church and most recently served as the Ward Sunday School President. Don served a two year mission for his Church in Barcelona Spain from October 1988 through November 1990. Don was also an avid tennis player and was active and beloved member of the Greenville Sports Club. However, Don's most precious times and what he loved more than anything was spending time with his Children.

Surviving Don in addition to his parents are one daughter, Katherine Elizabeth Brock, 14, and two sons, Matthew Owen Brock, 13, and Christopher Louis Brock, 11 who reside in Salem, Oregon. Don is also survived by his older brother David Louis Brock, his Wife Maida Kipper Brock and niece Rebecca Chyenne Brock of Powell, Ohio and his younger brother Thomas Daniel Brock, his wife Allison Wodskow Brock and niece Kelsey Jo Brock and nephew Tyler Thomas Brock of Pocatello, Idaho.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at Wood Mortuary located at 300 W. Poinsett St., Greer S.C. There will also be a viewing from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Greenville Fifth Ward located at 1301 Boiling Springs Rd., Greer, SC.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 noon Thursday at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Greenville Fifth Ward located at 1301 Boiling Springs Rd., Greer, SC. Conducting the services will be Chris Rouse, 2nd Councilor in the Greenville Fifth Ward Bishopric.

Don will be buried in the Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Utah on Friday, April 11th at 11:30 a.m. A small graveside service will be held for family and friends.

The family is at the residence.
