Lael Rae (Bean) Call

1935 ~ 2018

Lael Rae Bean was born March 10, 1935, to her parents Stanford and Wanda (Brown) Bean. Lael was named for her aunt, and given her middle name Rae, when her parents proudly shared she was a "rae of sunshine," which would be true throughout her life. Lael was born in Wenatchee, Washington, and grew up in Seattle, Washington with her siblings, as the second of five children, including older brother Clark Bean, and younger siblings: Melvin Bean, Rodney Bean, and Loretta (Bean) Schader. The family enjoyed waterskiing, sports, and being outdoors. Lael passed away on October 16, 2018, after bravely facing Dementia (Alzheimer's and Parkinson's). Lael was a lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints with a strong testimony that she shared with others.

Lael will be remembered for her love of family, skiing, art, gardening, traveling, and playing games. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. Lael was the heart of her family, and will be dearly missed by her family and loved ones.

Lael met her husband and eternal companion, Dellwyn "Dell" Roberts Call (1935 ‚ 2011) while both were attending Brigham Young University. Dell and Lael married in the Logan Temple on May 14, 1956. They graduated together from BYU and she earned her Bachelor's Degree in Childhood Development. Lael and Dell had a fun and loving partnership, and they enjoyed being together. Dell affectionately called her "Lalypop," and they celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on a Mediterranean Cruise with their children and their spouses.

Together, Lael and Dell had five children: Dellwyn Jr. "Bob" (Julie) Call, Darren (Susan) Call, Michelle "Call" (David) Horne, David (Jeana) Call, and Marcus (Janalyn) Call. Lael and Dell raised their family in Shoreline, Washington. Family events included skiing, trips with family to Birch Bay, Washington and visits home to Dell's home region of Star Valley, Wyoming, and visiting the family horses at Ensign Ranch outside of Ellensburg, Washington. Lael and Dell could often be found hosting family dinners on Sundays followed by playing cards and games: a tradition that started when their children were young and to be continued on by their children, grandchildren, and their families. Their home was filled with love, music, games, and outdoor activities. They loved being with their children, and later, with their grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lael was active in her church and local community: she was generous with her time, talents, and resources. Lael held several callings including: Relief Society President, Primary President, Visiting Teacher, and was called to work in the Seattle Temple with Dell. She was also active in local politics serving as the Republican County Chair. She volunteered in numerous capacities while her children were in school, and continued to volunteer at local elementary schools, often helping children learn to read and gain literacy skills.

Lael pursued her talent and love of gardening and earned her Master Gardener certificate in Landscaping which led to her starting her own business: "Lael's Landscaping." Lael designed her beautiful garden: her backyard was used for several celebrations, and she often shared beautiful flower arrangements using her plants and flowers. Lael was also an avid art lover, taking several classes and sharing paintings and sketches with loved ones, and visiting museums.

Lael and Dell served a couple's mission together after Dell's formal retirement as a tax partner at Deloitte and Touche in the Seattle, Washington Office. They were called to teach college students at the local Institute on topics such as financial and family economic skills, and religious education such as Temple Preparation. She also had some fun during their local mission with her Ping-Pong talents, even winning several matches against some of those novice young adults. Following their mission, they took several ski trips to their vacation home at Whistler, Canada, and also traveled internationally. Some of Lael's favorite trips were to: South Africa, China, Israel, and Sweden.

Lael will be remembered as a loving sister, daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She is preceded in death by her parents: Stanford and Wanda (Brown) Bean, husband Dellwyn Call, brother Melvin (Jan) Bean, and grandchildren, Jason Roberts Call, and Ainsley Irene Call. Lael is survived by her siblings and their spouses Clark (Jerrie) Bean, Rodney (Connie) Bean, and Loretta (Fred) Schader, her five children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren: Bob and Julie Call: Rachel (Wade; Renae, Abigail, Isaac), Jason, Stephanie (Levi; Hannah, Aubrey, Elsa, and Lucy), Shawn (Huimin; Hobson, Anson), Kayleen (Brandon; Ryan, Mason), Michael (Nohema; Kelsy), Darren and Susan Call: Megan (Michael; Hannah), Matthew, W.
