Glen Edward Young

1923 ~ 2015

Glen Edward Young passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on January 17th 2015. He was born September 25th, 1923 to Glenn Chester and Martha Weilenmann Young. He married Joan Warner on December, 1963 in Provo, Utah. They were later sealed in the Manti Utah, LDS Temple. Survived by his wife of 51 years, his children, Shannon Young, Joni

(Edward) Felt, Kimberlee (Pete) Thanos, Jared (Pamela) Young, Courtney (Darren) Johnson and 10 grandchildren Mitchell, Paige, Ellie, Nicholas, Zachary, Maddy, Gideon, Ainsley, Maddox, and Ashlyn.

Glen attended the University of Utah, where he majored in business, lettered in wrestling and played the flute in the University band. He was an avid Utes fan his entire life. Glen joined the marines and served in World War II. He was engaged in battle in Saipan, Tinian, the Marshall Islands and Iwo Jima as a communications specialist. During the war he vowed to remain true to his beliefs and to never be a coward, and succeeded in upholding both. Following the war Glen served an LDS mission in Holland and Belgium.

Glen had a rewarding career in real estate and served on the Salt Lake Board of Realtors for a number of years. He was also engaged in the restaurant business in both Oregon and Utah. The last fifteen years of his career were spent as managing partner of the Ristorante Della Fontana in Salt Lake City, Utah. His flashing bow tie at Christmas time attracted customers from all over the state.

Glen's greatest love was his family. He coached his children's soccer teams, attended swim meets, water polo games, wrestling matches, dance concerts and piano recitals. It was a sad day for Glen when the children were grown and there were no more events to attend.

One of Glen's favorite leisure activities was clearing brush and monitoring bonfires at the family cabin at Bear Lake. The family's most enduring memories of Glen are in his green coveralls marching the grounds and removing offending shrubbery. Glen was most at peace sitting on the porch and looking out over his beautiful view of Bear Lake.
