Byron Baker Robinson

1919 ~ 2015

Byron Baker Robinson passed away Friday, December 4, 2015 in Sandy, Utah. He was born in Oakley, Idaho on September 11, 1919 to Loren J. Robinson, Jr. and Rosetta Victoria Baker. He was one of 11 children, 10 of whom were raised to maturity. He left Oakley for Salt Lake City after high school. Byron enrolled in LDS Business School and received a degree in stenography. He completed an LDS Mission in the Central States from 1940-1942. One month later, he enlisted in the United States Navy. Two of his four years with the Navy were spent in the South Pacific. During his service, he was promoted several times and became Chief Yeoman. Toward the end of his service, while stationed in Shanghai, he worked for Admiral Kincaid's Chief of Staff. During his time in the Navy, Byron corresponded with Dorothy Price. When he got home, he felt like he was led to Dorothy and proposed. They were married in the SLC Temple on April 8, 1946. Scott (Cheryl) was born in 1948 and Mark (Kari) in 1951. Byron was employed by Northwestern Mutual Insurance Co. (later Unigard) from 1946 to 1976 as a property and casualty underwriter. Byron was a life-long dedicated member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and held many significant church callings, including Bishop of both the Grandview and later the Canyon Road Wards and President of the Wilford Stake. For 4 years, beginning in 1983, Byron and Dorothy served Church Service Missions in SLC at the Family History Center. For the last 18 months, Byron served as the Director of Church Service personnel with Dorothy acting as Administrative Assistant. In 1976, Byron became a Sealer in the SLC temple, having received the Sealing Power from then President Spencer W. Kimball. Ironically, Byron had an uncanny resemblance to President Kimball. Among many others, President Benson later so noted to Byron. Family and Church were Byron's passions. He is proud of his siblings, his two sons, his 10 grandchildren and 18 greatgrandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy and 7 siblings. He is also survived by his two sisters Helen Grant and Nelda White.
