Devun G Hansen

1998 ~ 2018

Devun G Hansen was born in Salt Lake City, UT on September 20th, 1998 and left us too soon on August 6th, 2018. Devun was born to Amy Hutto and Brian Hansen, and has been blessed by the addition of step parents, Nicholas Hutto and Kelly Hansen in his life. He leaves behind his big sister and best friend, Cierra Maple, as well as his beloved younger sister Reece Hansen and adored baby brother Zac Hansen.

Devun was an incredible and powerful young man, with a huge heart and a desire to change the world. He was an advocate for youth, a warrior for change and a force of nature. Devun loved people and took time to get to know them and know their names. He was sensitive, gentle, passionate, funny and kind. When Devun hugged, he did it with his whole self, wrapping a person in all the love he felt for them. He loved fiercely and cared deeply for those he had and those he brought into his world.

Devun loved to skateboard, and was incredible at it. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing board games and video games. He loved to write. He loved listening to music and going to concerts, and could regularly be found animatedly and fearlessly singing along to whatever music he happened to be playing. He loved exploring places by walking and hiking, and loved going on "grand adventures" with those he loved. He recently moved to Kanab, Utah to experience a beautiful new place. He loved talking and discussing whatever people were passionate about, and would spend hours engaged in conversation.

Devun was an advocate for teens and spoke at TedX Salt Lake City, on his 16th birthday, about the power of young people to make the world better, and how adults could help them. He worked with his sister Cierra and their friends to build an organization that worked to help teens feel empowered and make changes in the world around them. He fought hard to make sure teens felt they had a voice.

Devun's time with us was a gift. He was an incredible and loving son, compassionate and doting brother, a caring, concerned grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, and a beautiful human being. His loss will be felt forever, and we will miss him every day.

Devun will be forever loved and missed by his parents Amy and Nicholas Hutto and Brian and Kelly Hansen, sisters Cierra Maple and Reece Hansen, brother Zac Hansen, grandparents Tammie Jensen, Michael Meier, LeAnn and Jerry Hansen, Steven and Sherry Hutto, Ann Manning, Stephen and Marie Manning. He will also be missed by his Aunts and Uncles; Amber and Dwight Skinner, Tylor and Sharli Meier, Brady Meier, Zach Lucero, Nicole and Dan Crawley, Rob Hansen, Cheryl and Dave Armstrong, Deb and Jake Johnson, Steve and Breanne Hansen, Jennifer and Anthony Hunt, Casey and Damaris Hutto, Hayley and Mike Curtis, Dave Manning, Lesley Manning, and Kate and Jason Hameren. Devun was also blessed with many, many cousins who will miss him greatly. Finally, Devun recently got a tattoo that said "Family is more than blood", and we know that his absence will be felt by those who adopted him as their own, including a heartwarming number of adopted Aunts, Uncles and cousins, his Uncle and Aunt Chris and Korinne Coffin, Uncle Steffan Tucker, and the brother of his heart, Hunter Lee.

Devun will be warmly held by his Great Grandparents who preceded him; Joan Rohovit, John and Mary Lou Meier, Howard Hansen, Reed Toone, Wally Thorup, David Manning, Bonnie Hall, and Ed Hutto.

As a family, we would like to share our gratitude with the people of the City of Kanab, the dedicated members of Search and Rescue, the Utah Department of Public Safety Helicopter Division, and especially the caring and compassionate men and women of the Kane County Sheriff's Office and dispatch and City of Kanab PD and dispatch, The overwhelming support, concern, respect and care that our family received during this difficult experience will never be forgotten. Thank you to every stranger who helped us as though Devun was their own, and for the love and compassion extended to our family. We will be eternally grateful.

A memorial to celebrate Devun's life is being held Saturday, August 18th, at 12:00 PM in the Le Jardin Greenhouse at Larkin Sunset Gardens (1910 Dimple Dell Rd, Sandy, UT 84092). There will be space and opportunity for anyone who would like to share something about Devun to do so.

To honor Devun, we ask that you wear what will make you most comfortable, be that jeans or dress clothing. Your comfort in this difficult time would be his greatest concern. He would want you to care for yourself and your grief, not fret over clothing.

We also ask you not to send funeral wreaths or traditional funeral flowers. We are celebrating his life in a greenhouse to honor the ways that he will live on. If you wish to send them, flowers and plants that will continue to grow and live would be appreciated.
