Gary Ronald Bateman

1944 ~ 2015

Gary Ronald Bateman passed away unexpectedly on August 30, 2015. He was born June 12, 1944 in Murray, Utah to Vernon and Fern Bateman. Growing up in Sandy, he helped his dad on their mink ranch and started raising pheasants as a teenager. He graduated from Jordan High School. On September 3, 1971, he married Kathleen Kemp. He continued to raise pheasants, quail and various other birds as Bateman Game Farm throughout his adult life. Gary worked at Fetzer's Mill for several years, then was a Manager at Chris and Dicks for 25 years in the cabinet and paneling departments until it closed. He was a sales associate at Home Depot for 17 Ω years in the garden department, until the day he died. He was very dedicated to his customers and felt that they were more friends than anything else. Gary had a passion for gardening and helping people, which made his work very fulfilling. He loved talking to people and especially joking with them. He could always be counted on to lighten the mood and make people laugh. Gary loved to travel and be in the mountains, especially Yellowstone where he travelled often with his family. He loved to Dutch oven and would invite anyone he met to join in the meal. Gary was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend and will be deeply missed by many.

Gary is survived by his wife Kathy and their children Brandon (Cassie) and Veronica (Spencer) McDougal, his other children Lorri (Art) Henseler, Ed and Bart (Faith), and his grandchildren Candace (Wyatt) Bennion and Marshall Bateman, his sisters Barbara (Howard) Roberts and Marlene (Kelly) Sullivan and brothers Lee, Ron and Reed. He was preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Fern, brothers Wayne and Blaine and grandson Ronnie.

A viewing will be held on Tuesday, September 8 from 5-8:00 p.m. and Wednesday, September 9 from 9-10:30 a.m. Services will be held on Wednesday, September 9 at 11:00 a.m. All services will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens at 1950 E. Dimple Dell Road (10600 S.).
