Ole Kent Berg

1936 ~ 2017

Ole Kent Berg passed away peacefully in his sleep at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his loving family. Kent was born to Echo Hortense Nebeker and Carl Knudsen Berg June 16, 1936 in Ogden, Utah the youngest of 4 children. He grew up in Ogden and graduated Valedictorian, Ogden High School, class of 1954. He received an associate degree from Weber State College and a BA in philosophy from the University of Utah in 1965. He served an honorable mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints in the Western Canadian Mission from 1956 - 1958. He married the love of his life, Myra Henderson, June 5, 1959 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they raised 6 children.

Along with his love for his wife and family he had a love of music, solving puzzles and was an avid Ute fan. He took pleasure in watching his children and grandchildren play sports and participate in other activities. He enjoyed playing the piano, singing with his children and performing with the Swanee Singers. He served as 1st Counselor in the Bishopric, Monument Park 8th Ward and was a wonderful Sunday School teacher for many years.

Professional accomplishments include 30 years of service with the Utah State Dept. of Education, Division of Rehabilitation beginning as counselor and retiring as a Field Service Director. He served as president of Utah Rehabilitation Counselors Association, Utah Rehabilitation Association and was counselor of the year, 1970. His passion for volunteerism was evident in the many different organizations he served including, The Utah Parent Center, The Work Activity Center, Sugarhouse Chapter of the Sons of Utah Pioneers, Utah Center for the Blind, Valley Mental Health, and LDS Hospital where he served with distinction, 5000 hours. He was a temple worker in the Salt Lake Temple for 10 years.

Kent is survived by his wife, Myra Henderson Berg and 6 children, Michelle (Mark) Kunkel, Teresa (Scott) Douglas, David (Joanne) Berg, Roxanne (fiance Brent Brinkerhoff) Berg, Jason (Paige) Berg, Daniel (Cary) Berg, 17 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, mother, brothers Lenis, Carl (Rue) and sister Alice Stephens. He has a very large loving family who will miss him very much.

A viewing will take place on Thursday, March 23 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm at Foothill Stake Center, 1933 So. 2100 E. SLC, UT. Services will be held Friday March 24 at 11:00 am with a viewing 1 hour prior at the same location. Interment at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 So. immediately following.
