Evelyn Griffin Heaps

1922 ~ 2016

Our beloved mother and grandmother, Evelyn Griffin Heaps, a long-time resident of the Cottonwood Heights area, died on February 17, 2016 after a long battle with health issues. She was born April 20, 1922 in Provo, UT to Ernest D. and Mary Robbins Griffin. She was raised in Escalante, UT. She married Alma Alonzo Heaps on December 17, 1937 and their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They were married for 61 years until her loving husband passed in 1999.

Evelyn held various leadership positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She and her husband served two full time missions. One in the Dallas Texas Mission and the other in the Dallas Texas Temple Mission. She served as a temple worker in the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples for many years and was a guide at the Joseph Smith Memorial Building.

Her greatest love was her family and she cherished spending time with them. She traveled extensively with her husband. She will be sorely missed by all that knew her. A special thanks to all who contributed to her care.

Survived by her three children, Douglas L. Heaps, Gloria (Bob) Campbell and Steven G. (Cheri) Heaps, 11 grandchildren, 51 great grandchildren, 39 great-great grandchildren, sister Joan (Ted) Murdock and many nephews and nieces. Preceded in death bythree brothers and daughter-in-law Marsha Heaps.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at the Forest Bend Chapel, 1975 East Forest Bend Drive (7800 South Highland Drive). A visitation will be held Monday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Road (10600 South) in Sandy and on Tuesday morning from 9:30-10:30 a.m. prior to the services at the church.
