Norene Stead

1928 ~ 2016

Norene Stead, age 87, passed away at her home in West Jordan, Utah, on May 26, 2016, of natural causes related to advanced age. Norene was born to Norris Stead and Elsie Derbyshire Stead in Salt Lake City, Utah, on July 5, 1928. She was their only child. Norene graduated from South High in 1946. Her first car was a maroon 1954 Mercury, which she loved. At the age of 18, she began working in the office at Dunford Bakery and retired after 39 years. Norene was a crafty and talented woman. She was a master at assembling jigsaw puzzles and took great pleasure in decorating her room with them. Another hobby of Norene's was knitting. She and her friend, Connie Hahl, carefully fashioned dog sweaters, which they successfully sold. Norene also knitted dish cloths that she annually donated to the Festival of Trees. She adored her two dogs: Jock, a full-sized red poodle, and Jingles, an apricot toy poodle.

For the last 15 years of her life, Norene played the role of second grandma in the Keith and Norma Olson family: She was lovingly known as "Nana 2" by their extended family and friends. Norene's quick wit, uncanny memory and sweet smile will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. We are happy to know she has been reunited with her family.

We would like to thank Inspiration Hospice and especially Shane Haag for the loving care that was provided for her.

A viewing for Norene will take place on May 31, 2016, at 10:00 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary 3688 W 12600 S, Riverton, UT, and the service will follow at 11:00 a.m. Graveside services will be held at Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park 3401 S. Highland Drive on May 31, 2016, at 12:30 p.m.
