LaRue Hardy Cain

1919 ~ 2015

LaRue Hardy Cain, ‘born to be a wife and mother,' passed away gracefully at the age of 96 on October 29, 2015, surrounded by her adoring family. Born July 23, 1919 to Leonard W. and Ethelinda Allred Hardy.

LaRue married her sweetheart, Howard Cain, on June 1, 1940. They had been married 69 years at the time of his passing in 2009. Howard and LaRue served LDS missions to Tonga, Oakland, and Oregon and served together in the Salt Lake Temple. She loved the wonderful life she had with Howard and her family.

LaRue lived a lifetime of service including many teaching and leadership positions in the church. A woman of sterling character, she was the epitome of love, kindness, cheerfulness, wisdom and faithfulness. LaRue was a counselor and mentor to countless people. However, the eternal monument of her life is her family.

Howard and LaRue have 6 children: Colleen (Richard-deceased), Sue (Mac-deceased), Jeff-deceased (Laraine), Linda (Jack-deceased), Steve (Elaine), Mike (Jan), 34 grandchildren, 95 great-grandchildren (with 4 on the way), and 14 great-great-grandchildren, with a total of 155 descendants.

The family expresses thanks to all the wonderful people of Rocky Mountain Hospice who provided tender care and genuine love to our mother for the last three years. We also thank Sunrise Senior Living of Sandy for their kindness and care in the last two months of her life.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:30 AM Saturday, November 7th 2015, at the LDS Chapel located at 6350 South Rodeo Lane, Murray, Utah. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 11:00 AM, prior to the service. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the LDS General Missionary Fund.
