James Thomas Chapman

1947 ~ 2019

James "Jim" Thomas Chapman, passed away Sunday evening November 17, 2019, in Salt Lake City, Utah, having bravely fought Parkinson's Disease for 28 years. Jim was born in Flint, Michigan on May 21, 1947. He was the oldest of ten children, born to John "Jack" and Flora "Jane" Chapman.

Jim grew up in Mt. Morris, Michigan, graduating from St. Mary's Catholic High School in 1966, after which he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He married the love of his life, Kathy Robinson in their hometown in 1970. He honorably served his country during the Vietnam war. He attended the University of Michigan graduating in 1977, and later received a Masters of Science from Eastern Michigan University.

Jim loved to share his knowledge and his sense of humor with others, making his profession as a high school physics and earth science teacher at Flint Central High School a perfect fit.

Jim and Kathy moved to Utah in 2014 to spend time with their daughter and grandchildren. Jim is survived by his wife Kathy, daughter Lannie (Chris), granddaughters Addie and Eibhlin, his sisters, brother, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law. Jim is preceded in death by his parents Jack and Jane, brothers-in-law John, Michael, Ramon, Mitch and sister-in-law Carol.

There will be a public visitation for Jim on Thursday, November 21st from 4-5PM at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City, Utah with a services following.
