Richard Scott Fowles

1956 ~ 2015

Our loving husband, father, son and friend, Richard Scott Fowles, age 59, of Sandy, Utah passed away of liver cancer on September 4, 2015. He was born February 20, 1956, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Richard Matthews and Shirley Rae Fehr Fowles.

Rick spent his younger childhood years growing up in Bountiful, Utah and then moved to Scottsdale, Arizona at age 10. He was very active in sports, and especially loved playing baseball and football for Saguaro High School. Upon graduating from high school, he served a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Ireland, Belfast Mission. He served as a Branch President while there. After his return, he attended Brigham Young University and the University of Utah majoring in Communications. He married Karin Kapp Fowles on May 12, 1982, in the Idaho Falls Temple, and they made their home in Sandy, Utah.

Rick was employed as a Program Management Director at Novell, Inc. for 27 years and served on a variety of committees. He enjoyed Harleys, airplanes, tinkering with cars, music, photography, reading, studying and a good sense of humor. He was an active member of his community and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, serving as a Bishop twice, Temple Ordinance Worker, Elder‚Äòs Quorum President, Young Men's President, Stake Young Men's Councilor, High Councilor, Ward Clerk, Gospel Doctrine Teacher, and his favorite calling ‚ Nursery Leader, which allowed him to crawl on the floor with the children he loved. He possessed a firm testimony of Jesus Christ and a rich knowledge of the gospel and its principles.

Rick is survived by his wife Karin, son Scott Richard Fowles, daughter, Jennica Lynn Marriott (Nick) and Jonathan Timothy Fowles. He is also survived by his parents, Richard and Shirley Fowles of Twin Falls, Idaho, Mother-in-law, Joanne Kapp of Sandy, Utah and by various brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his younger brother, Timothy Lee Fowles.

The family wishes to thank A Step Forward Hospice for their tender-loving care in Rick's behalf as well as the Doctors and Nurses at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the LDS Church Missionary Fund.

Funeral Services for Rick will be held on Friday, September 11, 2015, at 12:00 Noon at the Eastridge 8th Ward Building located at 1020 East 11600 South (Sunburn Lane), where a gathering will be held from 10:45 to 11:45 a.m. prior to the services.
