John M Peterson

John M.Peterson passed away December 27th in Draper, Utah. John was born on June 28, 1948 in Provo, Utah. John married Elaine Peterson on May 17, 1974. John graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in sociology. John dedicated his career to serving veterans at the U.S. Veterans Administration. John was a proud veteran himself, drafted to serve in the Vietnam conflict and subsequently spent over 20 years in the U.S. Army Reserve achieving the rank of Master Sergeant. He enjoyed a special camaraderie with his brothers in arms. He instilled in all those around him a reverence for country and military service.

John was our fun-loving father, grandfather, brother and friend. John loved the outdoors including hiking, running, and especially working in his yard. John was truly gifted with plants and flowers and found much joy in sharing his knowledge. John was an avid antique collector and spent much of his leisure time in this pursuit. John had an infectious smile and a laughter that would light up a room. John was often the life of the party and loved to make others laugh. His humor will be greatly missed.

John leaves a legacy of love, service, dedication, style, and honor.

John is survived by his four children; Kara, Matthew, Jessica, Melissa, and Elaine Peterson; his three sisters: Judy, Janis, and Jill; twelve adoring grandchildren; and his best friend David Phillips. John is preceded in death by his parents Molen and Katherine Peterson.

A memorial service will be held in his honor Wednesday January 4th, at Larkin Mortuary 3688 West 12600 South Riverton, Utah at 11:00 a.m.. Visitation will be held from 9:00-10:30 a.m.. Interment at the Utah Veterans Cemetery 117111 South Camp Williams Road, Bluffdale, Utah.
