Ellen W. Plath

1921 ~ 2015

Ellen Lorraine Wholey Plath, age 94, passed away peacefully the morning of December 18, 2015 at Highland Cove following a valiant battle with cancer. She was a friend to everyone and will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Ellen was born on July 21, 1921 in Austin, Nevada to John Charles Wholey and Minnie Mae Carter. She had a loving relationship with her sister Carmen and brother Lloyd, and remained close to them throughout life.

She met the love of her life, Harry Otto Plath, at a fraternity dance at the University of Nevada. They were married on May 18, 1941. The two moved to Utah in 1943 and made Salt Lake City their home. Together on Berkeley Street they raised their two daughters, Barbara and Shirley. Ellen cherished the friendships she made in that neighborhood. Ellen loved to entertain! She was always planning her next party or upcoming bridge club event. You would often find her having brunches to welcome new neighbors into the area. She was an amazing cook and had several of her recipes published in the newspaper. Both she and Harry loved to dance, and were part of the original members of the Hi-Steppers dance group. They owned a cabin at Flaming Gorge with their closest friends, and loved to go there with family. She loved her children and grandchildren, family was everything to her. We love you mom.

We would like to thank the loving care she received from Ofelia and Heidi at Highland Cove, as well as Stefanie and One Care Hospice. They helped make mom's last days here on earth peaceful ones.

Ellen is survived by her daughter; Shirley (Ron) Cottam, brother; Lloyd Wholey, grandchildren; Forest, Emily, Tyler, McKenzie, Tobias, Hannah and Logan Abdon, Travis, Corinne and Trevor Cottam. She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband, daughter Barbara, grandsons; Nathan Abdon and Jeremy Cottam, sister; Carmen and her parents.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2015 at 11:00am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S) in Sandy. The family will receive friends from 9:30-10:30 prior to the service.
