Gordon Farrell Holloway

1933 ~ 2016

Gordon Farrell Holloway passed away peacefully on January 28, 2016 in Payson, Utah. Gordon was born on February 6, 1933 in Chesterfield County, Virginia to Fredrick Ward and Eva Belle Holloway.

Gordon joined the Navy in 1951 and served honorably for four years. Later marrying Barbara Annie Eugster in 1955 and together had nine children. He graduated with his Ph.D. from Southern Illinois University in the summer of 1968. He assumed Chairmanship of the Department of Speech Pathology and Audiology at Minot State University. Later moved to South Dakota and became the Chief Audiologist and Speech Pathologist at the Audiology and Speech Pathology Services for the Veteran's Administration Hospital until 1994.

He was active throughout his career with national and state speech and hearing associations and was instrumental in helping gain State Licensure for Speech Pathologists and Audiologists in North and South Dakota.

After Barbara's unexpected passing in 1986 Gordon met and later married M. Nannette Vonk.

Together they moved to Payson, Utah where Gordon established the Utah Tinnitus and Hyperacousis Center which is an association with Family Audiology. Treating patients from the surrounding states. He also gave lectures to audiology students at Brigham Young University and The University of Utah. Gordon was an active member of the LDS faith, serving as hometeacher, Sunday School teacher, the old MIA Program, Elder's and High Priest Quorum, District and State High Councilman, Branch President and Temple Ordinance worker. Gordon and Nannette served for 18 months at the Mission Training Center acting as a "role player" and later as a Shift Leader. One of Gordon's passions was making bread, always striving for the perfect loaf. He crafted this art and even provided the Sacrament bread for his local church. Gordon was an avid story/poem writer, creating pseudonyms and dressing up to play the part. Through Gordon's example his children developed a strong work ethic and a love for gaining knowledge in all aspects of life. Always saying, "work hard and play hard".

Survived by his wife, M. Nannette; children, Susan Loamanu, Todd Holloway, David Holloway, Tammy Peterson, Gary Holloway, Cathy (Russell) Stewart; step-daughter, Alecia (Bob) Powers; 34 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by his parents; first wife, Barbara Annie Eugster; daughter, Lynda Lother; sons, Brent Holloway and Gregg Holloway; grandson, Loren Holloway; granddaughter, Denise Stewart; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.

The family would like to thank the staff at the V.A. Nursing Home in Payson for the loving care they extended toward Gordon.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Mountain View 6th Ward, 789 Arrowhead Trail Payson, Utah. A visitation will be held one hour prior at the church.
