Our dear mother and grandmother passed away on October 25, 2017. Rachel was born at the home of her parents William Thomas Davenport and Edith Amanda Wade Davenport on April 10, 1923 in Paragonah, Utah. Her early years were spent in Southern Utah where she graduated from Parowan High School. Rachel married Calvin Boyd Smith on August 29, 1944 and was later sealed in the St. George LDS temple. The couple were married for 73 years. Rachel\s husband and family were the center of her life, as was her lifelong faith in Jesus Christ. She held many callings in her ward and stake and served for 15 years in the Jordan River Temple.
Rachel is survived by her beloved husband; 5 children Gary Shan (Deloris) Smith, Dana Rae (Ralph) Anderson, Kirk D (Bonita) Smith, Monte Boyd (Sonja) Smith, and Mary Diane (Dennis) Dowdle; 32 grandchildren; 85 great grandchildren; and 3 great great grandchildren. She was also survived by a sister Margaret (Kay) Hansen. She was preceded in death by her parents; 5 sisters Mable (Byron) Montague, Dot (McKay) Smith, Sarah (Victor) Robinson, Wilma (Clark) Lamoreaux, Hazel Jean (Boyd) Robinson; a brother James Wade (Donna) Davenport; and a daughter Sonya Lu (Frederick) Hale.
We will miss our sweet mother and grandmother. Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the LDS Chapel (Institute Building) at 9501 Poppy Lane (940 East) in Sandy. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 3, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy and on Saturday from 10:00-11:45 am at the church prior to the service. Interment at Larkin Sunset Gardens.
