Roma Amelia Merritt Menges

1943 ~ 2015

Roma passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2015, with her family members by her side at her home in West Valley City, Utah.

Roma was born on April 19, 1943 in Bedford Wyoming to Sam and Amelia Merritt. Roma grew up in Bedford, WY and attended elementary school where there were two or three grades in each room.

When Roma was a teenager, she would travel to Jackson Hole in the summer time for work. She graduated from Star Valley High School in 1961. After she graduated, she married Ronald Jennings and had 2 children; Yolaunda Marie and Lisa Ann. Roma and Ronald were later divorced.

Roma was able to care for her mother until her mother passed away. Afterwards, she married Leo Menges and they had one son, Shory Todd. After Leo had passed away, Roma put herself through nursing school while raising 2 children. After she graduated nursing school, she worked at the Salt Lake Surgical Center for 35 years as a surgical nurse.

She had to make sure everything was dusted and that there were no dishes in the sink. She had such a charismatic attitude and made sure everyone felt welcome. Roma was everyone's angel and would give her very last dollar to anyone who needed it. Though she had no problem voicing her opinion, it was all done with the best of intentions.

She was survived by her two children, Yolaunda and Shory (June); Grandchildren, Misti (Cookie Crumb), Anthony (Peanut), Dylan (Dilly), and Brixanna (Noni); Two great grandchildren, Ben (Bug) and Sophia; Brothers, Zenith (Dinah), Leon (Laurel), and Hal (Dorothy); Sister Libbie Wright; and many nieces and nephews.

Roma is preceded in death by her husband Leo Menges; parents Sam and Amelia Merritt; daughter Lisa Ann Jennings; brother and sister-in-law Rand and Jean Merritt; brother Rowen Merritt; sister-in-law LaHoma Merritt; nephews Michael Merritt and Shano Wright.

Roma is going to be missed so much and will be remembered always.

In lieu of a viewing and funeral, we will be holding a celebration of her life at a later date. Information will be provided as the plans are made. Burial will be in Bedford Wyoming at 3:00 pm on May 2, 2015.

We request that instead of sending flowers, that you make a donation to a charity of your choice in Roma's name.
