Junior Wright Child

1924 ~ 2018

Junior Wright Child was born May 10, 1924 to Wright and Mable Child in Clinton, Utah. He passed away quietly from causes incident to age at his home in Salt Lake City, Utah at the age of 94 on Saturday, October 20, 2018.

He graduated from Davis High School in 1941 and from BYU in 1945 with a major in accounting. He was an outstanding athlete at both schools, where he lettered in all the major sports, including and especially, basketball.

He met his eternal companion at BYU, and they later married in the Salt Lake Temple. On graduating, he entered the Marines as an officer and served during the Korean War. He began his own accounting firm, and lived in California and Oregon, and finally, Murray, Utah, where he and Joan raised two daughters, Kay and Jan.

He served faithfully in many positions in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. In Murray, he served as Stake President in the 1960's. He then accepted a call to serve as Mission President in the British South Mission from 1968 to 1971. On his return from England, he was invited to head up the tax department of the Church, and during that time he also served as Bishop while living in Salt Lake's Avenues. Later, he was called as a Regional Representative for the Church, supervising much of the work in California, including parts of the Pacific Region. He was then called to be a director in establishing the Brigham Young University Jerusalem Center in the Middle East where he and Joan lived for two years. In his retirement, he continued to serve in the Salt Lake Temple.

He is preceded in death by his parents; his younger brother, Spence; his dear wife, Joan, who died in a tragic motor accident in 1996; his oldest daughter, Kay who died from causes incident to Alzheimer's in 2016; and his grandson, Jeramy Evans, who died unexpectedly last March 1, 2018 from a pulmonary embolism.

He is survived by his daughter, Jan Child Evans (William), and a large posterity of eleven grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS ward house at 142 West 200 North, Salt Lake City, Utah on Wednesday, October 24, 2018 from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. A viewing will be held at the same location that morning from 10:00 a.m. to 11:45 a.m.
