I was born in Ogden, Utah on December 7, 1928. Parents were Elzo Maathuis and Wilhelmina Vogelzang Maathuis. Grew up on a small farm in Riverdale. Graduated from Weber High School, Weber College and Utah State University. Served a Mission to the Netherlands for the LDS Church. Served in the Army during the Korean conflict. Taught at Granite High School for 14 years. Retired from Hill Air Force Base. Leaving behind my sweetheart of 58 years, Beliwa Sommer Maathuis; two lovely children, Debbie (Ed) Rufener and Chris (Sandi) Maathuis; five precious grandchildren and eight darling great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 24, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at the Lincoln Heights Ward, 601 East Mansfield Avenue (3100 South). Family and friends may visit Monday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Mortuary, 260 East South Temple, and Tuesday one hour prior to services at the ward.
