Faye Catherine Stuart McLaren

1927 ~ 2017

Faye Stuart McLaren passed away of natural causes in her home July 1, 2017. She was born Feb. 8, 1927 in SLC to Ruth Farnow and Roy Stuart. Faye was the youngest daughter with three older sisters. She graduated from East High School, and the University of Utah. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority.

She married Keith Roy McLaren on December 16, 1948 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they danced through many happy years, and created a strong, beautiful life.

As a very faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Mom served in the Salt Lake Temple as an ordinance worker, as Relief Society President, as a hostess at the Church Office Building, Gospel Doctrine teacher and always valiantly in many callings for 63 years in the Monument Park 11th Ward.

Her bright mind loved fine literature, writing poetry, traveling, the beauties of the world, and praised man's amazing accomplishments. Mom was the consummate hostess. Mom took cooking and giving parties to new heights, perfecting Sweet Rolls, Caramels, and Danish pancakes. Seconds, Thirds, anyone. You know, you ate them, because she invited you to her home and shared with you.

Community and social participation included The Assistance League, The Bargin Box, PTA President, The Dinner Set, University of Utah Alumni Association Board, and Literary Book Club, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, The Study Group, Thursday Night Group, Duplicate Bridge, and many Ladies Bridge Groups. Through the U of U International Student Friendship Program, she "adopted" Weimen Li, and has had a wonderful continuing relationship with Xuyen, his wife, and their family.

Mom's middle name could have been "service", and she dedicated her life to generously giving. Her time, talents and energy were used continually to lift, help, brighten and enrich. Her family gratefully acknowledges the legacy of faith, strength and selfless service which she leaves behind, she always gave more than she took.

Mom was always ready to play a game. She believed the rules were the "law", and you were to play to win. She was an avid Bridge, Hearts, Pounce or Rummy player. Put a tennis racket in her hand and she was in heaven, playing until she was 80 years old, and loving every minute. She wielding a wicked ‘side arm' serve that baffled her opponents! She was always a good sport, good natured and willing. She loved accompanying Keith as he worked "Jazz" games, and Utes Football and Basketball, sitting courtside and cheering for her home team and yelling at refs. She was pleased when he would accompany her to the symphony and stage plays. "McLaren and McLaren" created a Reader's Theater which performed for groups and ward events and to Faye's delight.

She had a strong testimony of Christ and an understanding of her purpose here on earth. She was ready and prepared to join her dear husband Keith, who preceded her from this earthly life 16 years ago.

Survivors include Kent (Chris), Laguna Niguel, CA, Kathy (Brent) Bell, Farmington, UT, and Stuart (Kathy), Holladay, UT. She spent loving time, generously fed and cared deeply for her 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Nathan, Callie, Courtney, Blake, James and Anne. She has 14great-grandchildren. She has been without Keith for 16 years, who preceded her to heaven.

Funeral will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn 2350 E. 1300 South at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 14, 2017
