Our dear dad passed away on Nov. 29, 2014 in Salt Lake City. He was born April 10, 1929 in Providence, UT to James Donald and Mable Caroline Kendrick Stoddard. Dad married Virginia Peterson on Nov. 21, 1951 in Norfolk, Virginia. They were happily married for nearly 50 years and cherished their 4 children. She passed away June 30, 2001.
Don worked at Kennecott Copper for 40 years as a machinist and shop supervisor. He served his country honorably for over 6 years in the US Navy, both Atlantic and Pacific, Gunners Mate Petty Officer 2nd Class. He thoroughly enjoyed working as a volunteer range officer for many years at the Lee Kay Shooting Range. Later, after the passing of Virginia, Mary Johnston and dad became good friends and did a lot of travelling and camping out together.
Survived by children, Richard (Cecelia) of Bakersfield, CA, Kathleen (Roger) Nelson of Nibley, UT, Jed (Vivian) of West Jordan, and Judy (Philip) Hyde of West Valley City; brothers, Douglas (Linda), James F. (Sandy), and sister Caroline (Ron) Huntsman; Also by 7 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Dec. 5, 2014 at 11am in the Larkin Sunset Gardens Chapel, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) with viewings Thursday 6-8pm and Friday 9:30-10:45am and interment to follow. Online condolences at www.larkincares.com
