Luella Collett Smith

1926 ~ 2013

Luella Collett Smith was born to Clarence James Collett and Margaret Watkins Collett on 8 April 1926. She grew up in Murray, Utah and graduated from Murray High School in 1944. She was lovingly nicknamed Lulu or Aunt Lu. Kind, caring and helpful can only begin to describe how Luella lived her life. She was always fun to be around, had a great sense of humor, and was the queen of one-liners. She was a hard worker and would jump in and help whenever she saw the need. On 7 July 1950 she married Merrill J Smith. They were able to celebrate 63 happy years of marriage.

Luella was an extraordinary cook and loved to entertain, which always included several bowls of yummy treats. She enjoyed many years of fishing and loved to travel. Merrill and Luella spent 8 years as "snowbirds" traveling with family and friends to warmer climates. Luella also loved to watch and play sports. She was an avid Utah Jazz fan, especially during the Stockton/Malone era. She played briefly on the Shamrocks Girls Fast-pitch team, coached Bobby Sox softball, and was a member of the Daughters of Utah Pioneers.

On 19 February 1982, her first grandchild was born and Luella was never happier. She adored her four grandchildren and loved them with all of her heart. Luella brought a smile to everyone she came in contact with. She was a joy to be around.

She passed away peacefully in the arms of her son-in-law, Steven Parry on 30 July 2013 after silently suffering from Alzheimer's Disease. She is preceded in death by her parents; her two sons, Richard and Martin; as well as her siblings Genevieve, Opal, Leon, Earl, Elthura, Edward, and A Jay. Luella is survived by her husband, her only daughter Diane, her favorite son-in-law Steve, and her brother Milo. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren: Jason and Karlie Parry, Fort Lewis, Washington; Trevor and Amy Parry, Columbus, Ohio; Lindsey and Benjamin Weber, Bismark, North Dakota; Morgan and Spencer Heywood, Kearns, Utah; and her three beautiful great-granddaughters: Ava and Savannah Parry and Josslyn Parry.

A viewing will be held on Monday, 5 August 2013 from 7 to 9 pm at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East 10600 South in Sandy. Graveside services will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am with a viewing one hour prior to the services at the mortuary.

"Grandma, you will forever be in our hearts."
