Kathleen Powers

1935 ~ 2019

Kathleen Powers, born to Fredericka Van Peski Lustig and Robert McLeese on February 8, 1935 in Salt Lake City, UT passed away peacefully on September 6, 2019 in Salt Lake City, UT. Kathleen was an avid reader and jigsaw puzzle-master, as well as a crossword puzzle queen and Junior Jumble expert. She loved to sew, knit, embroider, needle point, cook, eat, and attend musicals, operas and concerts. She was a member of the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Salt Lake City and had a little sister named Rachel. Kathleen loved to travel! Two highlights were a trip to Africa with her youngest sister, Sylvia, and another trip to Alaska with her sisters Colleen and Patsy, as well as their mother, Freddy. She also loved to travel a shorter distance to San Diego to spend time with her daughter and two grandchildren.

Kathleen is survived by her daughter, Leslie Powers Stebbins and husband Tim, two grandchildren, Thomas and Emma Stebbins who were her great joy, and numerous other family members including: twin sister Colleen Obeid, sister Patricia "Patsy" Schwar, and sister Sylvia Bennion and husband Phil; brother Roderick Lustig and wife Darlene, and brother Dan Lustig and wife Ruth Ann; and Lucy, her long-time feline companion. Kathleen was very proud that she had 28 nieces and nephews, and over 30 great-nieces and nephews. She loved them all as if they were her own and felt great pride in hearing about their achievements. Family was her biggest love.

Kathleen was preceded in death by: Her ex-husband, Bill; mother, father and step-father Willy; two beloved nephews, Troy and David; two beloved nieces, Pam and Heather.

Services will be held Sunday, October 20th, 2019 at 3:00 pm at The First Unitarian Church, Salt Lake City, UT.
