Robert Blaine Hanseen

1920 ~ 2016

Robert Blaine Hanseen died peacefully at home May 23, 2016 of causes incident to age just shy of his 96th birthday after a long and successful life.

Bob was born the 2nd of 7 children to Vincent and Lillian Thompson Hanseen in Scipio, Utah on June 9, 1920. As a young man, he was elected the student body president of the Branch Agriculture College in Cedar City before serving his country valiantly during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his bravery fighting with the U.S. invading force which liberated the Philippine Islands. After the war, Bob graduated from Utah State University where he was a leader in student government.

He married Melba Stephenson of Holden, Utah on August 19, 1946 in the Salt Lake Temple. Together, they raised their 3 children in Pasadena, California as Bob accomplished a distinguished career managing the New York Life Insurance agency in Los Angeles. Bob and Melba then enjoyed their retirement years living in Laguna Niguel, California before recently moving to Salt Lake City in 2015.

Bob was a life-long and faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He is survived by his wife Melba, his children Jill Zundel (C. Michael), Jane Pugh (Donald) and Ross Hanseen (Jennifer), his 14 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren and his sisters Glenda Hanseen Shrader and Meredith Hanseen Jones.

He will long be remembered by all who knew him and sorely missed by his loving family and many friends. A viewing will be held Friday, May 27 from 6-8 pm at the Parleys 6th Ward Building, 2350 South 2100 East, Salt Lake City, Utah.
