Jeffrey Scott Briggs

1955 ~ 2015

Jeffrey Scott Briggs died at his home on January5, 2015 of natural causes. He was born in SLC, UT, on March 19, 1955 to Don Hardy and Arlyne Cahoon Briggs, the fifth of their six children. His siblings and greatest friends were his brothers Graydon (deceased), Kerry (Christy), Kim (Vicki), David (deceased) and his sister Brenda (Jerry Schluker).

In his youth, Jeff attended and excelled in Holladay area schools and later studied at the U of U, graduating with a degree in accounting. He attained his CPA while working at Deloitte, Haskins and Sells in the Denver office.

Jeff served an LDS mission to Brisbane, Australia, and following his return, married Shelly Sandberg in 1978 in the Salt Lake Temple. They were the proud and loving parents of 4 children: Scott (Angie), Gideon, Charles (Becky) and Betsy (Scott Miller, fiancé).Known and admired for his creative and entrepreneurial mind, he, with Shelly, established and successfully ran their family business, Designer Textiles, for over twenty years. Jeff and Shelly ended their marriage but remained good friends until her death in 2003.

Jeff found many joys in life and loved sharing them with those closest to his heart. Music, skiing and spending time in nature were his passions; the yearly trek through the Wind Rivers with the guys were a balm to his soul and a platform he loved using to teach life lessons.

For most of the past decade, Jeff's skills as a financial analyst have been utilized with the Utah State Division of Natural Resources where he was recognized for excellence by Governor Herbert and appreciated among his colleagues for his professional expertise. He truly valued his relationships with his associates and found great purpose in his work.

Jeff was blessed to experience the sweetness of being a grandfather to Scott and Angie's children: J.T., Andrew, Keller and Sadie, and looked forward to the birth later this spring of Charlie and Becky's baby boy. These little ones will surely miss their Grandpa Jeff. Fridays will not be the same for the adult "Briggs kids", whose weekly lunch date with their Dad was a not-miss occasion. It was Jeff's way of keeping them close; always his treat (generally involving a Groupon) and most generously sprinkled with sage fatherly advice and ideas to aid and assist them in their lives. Jeff is survived by these loving children and their spouses, his grandchildren, siblings, and numerous extended family members. These and many good friends will mourn the passing of this talented and good-hearted individual.

Funeral services will be held at the LDS chapel on 1565 S. Foothill Blvd. on Saturday, January 10, at 1:00 PM with a viewing prior to services from 11-12:30.
