Robert Dean Shaw

1928 ~ 2018

Dad peacefully passed away on Sept. 16, 2018, after family members were able to spend private time with him. Although he was not able to respond verbally, there was great peace. Dad showed much dignity in his last days, caring much for family even though, his body, eyesight and clarity diminished.

He grew up without a father and struggled with life's many harsh lessons. He passed on his knowledge and wisdom as best he could to his sons, grandchildren and anyone who would listen. Dad always had a positive attitude and this affected hundreds of people over his life time.

In 1949, Zella Mae Thomas and Robert Shaw married. They had had many precious experiences throughout their lives and enjoyed cruises to amazing places around the world after Mom retired. The crown glory was their family of two sons, Randy, and Brent (Jann), and 6 grandchildren. Nothing gave Dad more joy than his grandchildren, he loved them unconditionally.

Dad was a tremendous Do-It-Yourselfer and passed this invaluable trait on to his sons and grandchildren. While Dad had many jobs and skills in his journey of life, he was most proud of his hypnotherapy work. He not only helped people in need, but also deepened and expanded his own sense of compassion.

Mom passed away in 1999 and eventually Dad found great joy in organizing workshops for the Draper Senior Recreation Center. He presented many "self-meditation" classes and on the other end of the spectrum he created "The Joke Club ." He had some really, dumb jokes and some really, good ones too. He was popular and enjoyed time with friends at the Draper Center.

In the end, we can say Dad always made the effort to build us up and lived a great life. He would say many times to us, "Remember: You're A Winner!"
