Roger Leonard Burnside

1937 ~ 2015

We will deeply miss our husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather, Roger Leonard Burnside. He passed into the next phase of his eternal progression on March 19, 2015. He is ready to move on to new challenges and privileges in the sphere that awaits him. The limitations of mortality will no longer shackle his passion for service and work. He was born on December 17, 1937 in Mountainville, Sanpete County, to Anna Birdella Peterson and Leonard Burnside. He was one of six children with two brothers and three sisters. On December 29, 1956 he married the girl of his dreams, Shirley Reynolds. They immediately moved to Salt Lake City to start a family.

His career was spent in the grocery and real estate business. He became general manager of the largest real estate firm in the valley and later formed his own business. His integrity was infinitely more crucial than any amount of wealth. He was admired and respected by all who worked with him.

He served in the bishopric, High Council, and many other ward and stake callings in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He also served for four years as an ordinance worker in the Draper Utah Temple until the time of his passing. He was absolutely committed to his Heavenly Father.

He loved riding horses, hunting, and just being in the mountains. He also enjoyed ballroom dancing and painted excellent artwork. He was a fantastic gardener and relished time at his beloved farmhouse in Mountainville. You could not take the country out of this boy. His greatest love was his sweetheart of nearly 60 years. She was always cherished as his queen. He also loved and served as a righteous patriarch to his family. His advice and counsel changed many lives. He was a Christlike example to all of us. His dedication to family was beyond description. We love and loved him so much.

He is survived by his wife Shirley, children David (Pamela), Laura (Dan), Bradley (Lesli), Jennifer (Richard), Marilee (Bruce), and Stephanie (Jon). He has 3 sisters, 23 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Ted and Boyce, son Karl, and grandson Timothy.
