Grant Hart Palmer

1940 ~ 2017

Grant Hart Palmer died on September 25, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. Grant was born the first of 7 boys on August 17, 1940 to Merlin and Elna Hart Palmer in Salt Lake City. He graduated from Olympus High in 1958 and from the U of U with a BA, BYU with a MA and PhD work at BYU in U.S. History. He served in the Army in 1959. He served an Eastern states LDS Mission from 1960-62. In 1964, he married Kathy Dahlin in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. In November 1992, she preceded him in death after 28 years of marriage. Survived by 4 children Karl (Jill), Julie (Rob Cheney), Rhett (Lisa), Tamara (Tyson Stokes). Married Connie Child in 1993. Survived by 5 step-children Dustin (Caron), Sanya (Justin), David (Jenny), Laura (David Leishman), Jon (Heather). He worked for the LDS Church Education System for 34 years. He taught Institute in New Zealand, California, Brighton High Seminary and counseled inmates as a Chaplain at the Salt Lake County jail for 13 years. He served on the Board of Directors of Legal Defenders. He authored three books, An Insider's View of Mormon Origins, The Incomparable Jesus, and Restoring Christ. He has penned many articles in various publications. He enjoyed his flower gardens, homing pigeons and parakeets. He loved to travel and saw much of the world. Dad said, "The world is the best book." He recently took his family (26) on an epic cruise through Alaska. He is survived by wife Connie, four children, five step children and 13 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 29, 2017 at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 East Dimple Dell Drive (10600 South) in Sandy. A viewing will be held Thursday evening from 6-8 p.m. and Friday morning from 9-10:30 a.m. prior to the services.
