Josephine Anderson Johnson

1916 ~ 2013

Our dearest Mother and Grandmother "twinkled" peacefully back to her Heavenly Father, July 27, 2013, surrounded by her loving family at home. She was born September 17, 1916, youngest of five children to Tryphena Rozeltha Boyer and Joseph Anderson in Lehi, Utah.

She graduated from Lehi High School, attended Stevens Henegar Business College and Keister School of Dressmaking. Josephine opened a dress shop with her sister- in-law, Mildred in 1940.

She married her sweetheart Jewel Raaf Johnson September 21, 1938 in the Salt Lake Temple spending 61 wonderful years together until his passing in 1999. Together they raised five children. Mom enjoyed gardening and spending time in their yard. She looked forward to monthly get-togethers with friends and family and had an intense love of the gospel. Mom was an active member of the LDS church serving faithfully in many callings throughout her life including many primary and relief society positions at both the ward and stake level. Together, they served a Genealogy Mission in 1982. Mom was proud to be a life-long member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Besides being an amazing seamstress, she enjoyed knitting beautiful infant sweaters, playing games (especially canasta) and had a fierce competitive nature, even at the age of 96.

She is survived by her children, Trudy (Neil) Sutherland, Kathleen Goodwin, Rosalie (David) Jensen, Curtis (Lorene) Johnson, Tamara (John) Anton as well as 27 grandchildren, 29 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren. Proceeded in death by her husband Raaf, parents, siblings and grandson Todd.

The family would like to express a special thank you to Curt and Lorene who generously and loving provided a wonderful apartment attached to their home for Mom. She was easily available for all family gatherings, impromptu card games and the hugs and kisses from the kids at the tip of her finger. The time, care and love they gave her over the last 13 years are priceless. Her passing will leave a tremendous void in everyone's life she touched but we know that she will be there to greet us when we meet again.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 2, 2013 at noon at the Heritage 5th Ward LDS Chapel at 6772 S 3420 W, West Jordan, Utah. A viewing will be held at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E 10600 S in Sandy, UT on Thursday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. and from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Gardens. In lieu of flowers Mom suggested a donation to the LDS Missionary Fund.
