Louis John Nixon

1933 ~ 2017

Louis John Nixon, husband, daddy, grandfather and friend, passed away July 18, 2017 at his home in South Jordan, Utah at the age of 84. Even with his intermittent health issues and ongoing struggle with dementia over the past 15 years, his passing was sudden and unexpected.

He was a proud veteran of the United States Army and served twice in the Korean War as well as in Viet Nam. He retired from the military after twenty years of service. He had a passion for carpentry and woodwork and spent his retirement in those pursuits. He was equally passionate about his commitment to his faith. He served as a Bishop in the LDS Church and he and his wife served together as Temple Missionaries at the Nauvoo Temple. Louis was still a Temple worker at his passing.

Louis is survived by his wife of 64 years, Leone (Muffie) Briggs Nixon, his children Kirk (Jeannie) Nixon, Becky (Alan) Alexander, Wendy Atwan and Stephen Briggs. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren, 33 great grandchildren and his younger brother Larry Olson. He was preceded in death by his precious grandson Kyle Brown Nixon.

He was and is so loved, and will be fondly remembered by all whose lives he was able to touch.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 22, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. in the Daybreak Chapel, 11038 South Braidwood Drive in South Jordan directly behind the Oquirrh Mountain Temple. A viewing precedes the service at 1:00 p.m. Private Interment will be in the Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
