Parley Pratt Giles

1940 ~ 2018

Parley Pratt Giles, Jr., 78, a longtime resident of Kenai, Alaska passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at home. A memorial service was held on December 17 in Kenai, Alaska.

Parley was born March 10, 1940 to Parley P and Marjorie (Kimball) Giles. He was raised in Salt Lake City and was the oldest of six children. He graduated from East High School, playing basketball on the high school team, attended the University of Utah and LDS Business College. He also served in the Army National Guard.

Parley married Linda Reed in the Salt Lake Temple on December 8, 1967 and they have five children and 14 grandchildren.

Parley worked in banking for Continental Bank for many years and then moved to Kenai, Alaska in August 1983. He opened Fidelity Financial Services, a tax practice, in January 1984. A few years later, he added Investment services. He served his clients until his retirement in 2017 after 33 years in business.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he served in many callings, including Missionary in the Germany West Mission, counselor to several Bishops, Bishop, Stake Patriarch, and High Counselor.

Parley also received many awards in his business and was well known for his honesty and integrity.

He enjoyed sports all his life with basketball being his favorite. He also enjoyed being outdoors in nature's beauty, along with his family and grandkids.

His family wrote, "Parley lived a life devoted to his family and his faith. Throughout the community, he will be remembered for his integrity, honesty, and kindness. He loved the people of Alaska and the beauty of its surroundings."

"As a family we will remember his unconditional love, his patience, and his calming spirit. The essence of his life was his love of family, his loyalty to his wife, and his service to the members of his church, his clients, and his community. His love for his family was evident in the bond he shared with his grandchildren and in the tears he often shed when he said "I love you." We will miss him dearly."

Parley was preceded in death by his parents and a granddaughter, Leisel Maw.

He is survived by his wife, Linda Giles of Kenai, Alaska; sons, Gregory of Irvine, Calif. and Matthew of Lake Forest, Calif.; daughters, Jennifer Giles of Kenai, Alaska, Melanie McCauley of Rowlett, Texas, and Holly Maw of Kenai, Alaska; grandchildren, Hayley, Alissa, Spencer and Logan Maw, all of Kenai, Alaska; Tyler, Austin, Justin, Carson and Lindsey McCauley all of Rowlett, Texas; and Braden, Adleigh, Easton and Noah Giles, all of Lake Forest, Calif.; mother-in-law, Verda Reed of Salt Lake City; brothers, David, Ron and John Giles of Utah; and sisters, Marilyn Peterson of St. George, Utah and Louise Plumner of Bountiful, Utah.

Funeral services will be held Friday, December 28, 2018 at 10:00 am at the Emigration Ward chapel at 589 18th Avenue in Salt Lake City, with a viewing prior to the services starting at 9:00 am.

Interment will be in the Wellsville Cemetery in Wellsville, Utah.
