Lamont Edward Christensen passed away peacefully surrounded by his family, in Murray, Utah on February 5,2016at the age of 85."Monty",a childhood nickname, was born on May 9, 1930,in Salt Lake City, Utah as the second son of Merton Eugene and Effie Candland Christensen. Effie died when Monty was very young and his father raised thetwo boys in Spring City, Utah. Monty moved to Salt Lake City in 1949 and met and married Dauna Mae Peterson in 1950. Monty was an Active Duty member of the United States Army and served during the Korean War. Following the Army, Montybegan a career in Law Enforcement, picking up his new nickname of "Chris". He was known as Chris the remainder of his life.
Chris and Dauna had two sons, Lamont Vinal and Jeffrey Lynn. The marriage dissolvedin 1963 andChris married LaJune Richards in that same year, which ended in 1971. Chris then married Gwendylon Williams on September 9, 1971. As members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, they were later sealed in the Salt Lake Temple, on May 25, 1979, for time and all eternity. With this marriage,Chris became involved in the lives of Gwen\s two step-daughters, Jeannie Dragon and Janice Rogers. Chris and Gwen bought a home in HistoricSandy, Utah and became parents of twins, Phillip Ray and Tammie Lynn, born in 1972.
Chris retired from full time law enforcement work in 1985, after 31 years of service with the Murray City and the Salt Lake City Police Departments. He later joined the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Reserve, totaling nearly 40 years of service. After retiring in 1985, Chris devoted his energies into building his own business - Christensen Reloading and Supply Company. He was passionate about reloading and sharing his knowledge and legacy with his family and customers. There were few problems he could not solve for his customers and friends.
Chris was alwayseager with a smile and a warm welcome to all those who came his way, creating many lifelong friendships. Chris loved the outdoors, including camping and hunting, which he participated in for many decades. His favorite place to camp was Kanosh, Utah; where many great memories were made with family and friends, sitting around the campfire and playing cards.
Chris\slifetime of knowledge, stories, friendship, skills and devotion to family, will create a void and he will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survived by his wife of 45 years, Gwendylon Christensen, his children, Lamont (Renee) Christensen, Jeffrey Christensen, Phillip (Sandra) Christensen, Tammie Christensen, 15 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Eugene, and many other family and friends that will be happy to welcome him home.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, February 10, 2016 at 11:00am at the LDS Church located at 8950 South 400 East, Sandy, Utah with a viewing 45 minutes prior to the service. A viewing will also be held on Tuesday, February 9, 2016 from 6-8pm at Larkin Mortuary, 1950 East 10600 South, Sandy, Utah. Interment at Sandy City Cemetery following the funeral services.
