L. Ray Brown

1925 ~ 2013

Ray Brown passed away on December 5, 2013. Ray was born on November 10, 1925 to Zachariah Evans Brown and Erva Lucetta Newbold. He was raised in Midvale, Utah, attended schools in Midvale and Ogden, and graduated from Jordan High. He received his Bachelor's degree from BYU and a Masters from the U of U. He was an educator by profession, progressing from teacher, to elementary principal (his favorite job), to Deputy Superintendent in Jordan School District. He married Kathleen Jensen in the Salt Lake Temple on January 4, 1945 and four days later was deployed to serve in the European Theater in World War II. His mother passed away while Ray was at war and he hitchhiked across France to be with his brother Darrell. Ray was also close with his younger sisters, Erva Dean and Donna.

Ray served faithfully in the LDS Church, his best loved callings being Organist and Bishop. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Kathleen, and by his children Byron (Jennifer), Valerie (Doug) Dyreng, and Paul (Michelle); 16 Grandchildren and 34 Great Grandchildren. His son Randall preceded him in death. Ray's family was his greatest love and he always had a vibrant connection with each of his children and grandchildren. The vacations he provided at Lake Powell will always be remembered. His presence will be deeply missed; but his goodness and influence will continue to enrich the lives of his family and friends.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, December 10 at the Willow Creek 3rd Ward, 2400 E Alta Canyon Dr., Sandy. A viewing will be held Monday evening from 6:00 ‚ 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E Dimple Dell Road (10600 S) Sandy, and one hour prior to the services at the church.
