Georgia Fowler Stevens

1941 ~ 2019

Georgia Fowler Stevens, our adoring mother, grandmother, sister and friend passed away at home April 29, 2019. Born February 18, 1941 in Salt Lake City to Gladys Fowler Andrus, she was the youngest child with three older brothers. Georgia grew up to be a determined and independent woman who lived a charitable life.

Georgia graduated from South High School in 1959. In 1960, she became a mother and devoted all of her time to providing for her son. As a single-mom, Georgia worked hard to ensure her family always had three meals a day, a roof over their head, and gifts during the holidays. In 1979, she met Howard Stevens, the love of her life, and they were married November 10, 1982. For ten all-too-short years she and Howard enjoyed travelling, spending time with their kids and grandkids, and playing golf.

Georgia worked at Burnham's Market, Ma's Caf√©, Amy's Magazine, and later worked for Mountain Bell Telephone company where she retired after 29 years of service. When applying for the phone company, she was too short to be an operator but landed a job as a directory assistant. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking for friends and family, collecting recipes, golfing with the American Legion Ladies Golf Auxiliary, and shopping (because she could). She especially loved teaching friends and her grandchildren how to golf ‚ a sport she once thought was silly but grew to love.

Because she grew-up in a home with little extra money, she devoted her adult life to making sure others in need were taken care of. During the holidays, her house would be filled with toys that were donated to charity or quietly left on a neighbor's doorstep along with all of the fixings for a holiday meal.

Georgia is preceded in death by her mother, Gladys; brothers, Byron and Mike; and her husband, Howard. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence (Mary Ellen); son, Dennis (Paulette); stepsons Greg (Kelly), Ray (Beverly), Blake and her grandchildren; Jennifer, Steven, Danielle, Joshua, Lacy, Shane, Melissa, Eric, Samuel, and Sara.
