Pedro Chagoyen Lazcano

1924 ~ 2016

Pedro Chagoyén Lazcano, 92, passed away peacefully December 29, 2016 at Abbington Manor Memory Care Facility in Lehi, Utah.

Pedro is survived by his two daughters, Mercedes Chagoyén Marshall, Ph.D. and María del Carmen Chagoyén Bone, his nine grandchildren: Peter and Joey Estrella, Anna Randall, Sandra and Curtis Art Reisinger, Brendan, Adrienne and Carmen Bone and Lauren Barnes, Ph.D., nineteen great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents Pedro Chagoyén Rodriguez and Nieves Lazcano Fernandez and siblings Lorenzo and Manuel Chagoyén, Celestino and Farides Chagoyén DDS, Belen Silverio and Gladys Armendariz.

Pedro was born in Placetas, Cuba to Pedro Chagoyén Rodriguez and Nieves Lazcano. He was trained as a Master jeweler and married María de las Mercedes Justina Lopez Dominguez in 1949 in Havana, Cuba. Pedro had jewelry businesses which he owned with his wife, María, as the accountant and business manager, in Havana, Cuba, Miami, FL and New York City, NY. Pedro and María served an honorable full time mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Puerto Rico and the Dominican Republic. He, also, served as a Branch President, High Priest Group Leader and a member of the High Council.

Pedro was devoted to the art of jewelry design and production, education, family and Church. He trained many in his trade, notably his grandson, Joey Estrella, who made him very proud by following in his footsteps. Pedro enjoyed spirited conversations with his brother-in- law and with almost anyone on any topic. He enjoyed letter writing, phone calls and visits with his siblings, and loved playing with his grandchildren great-grandchildren. Pedro will be remembered as a dedicated, passionate, social man who encouraged all to maintain integrity, strong values and beliefs.

His funeral is scheduled for Saturday, December 31, 2016 at 11:00 am at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) in Sandy, Utah with a visitation prior from 9:30-10:30 am. The family would like to thank the caregivers for their invaluable dedication.
