Graham Robinson (G.R.) Mather

1930 ~ 2017

Graham Robinson (G.R.) Mather, born March 23, 1930, passed away April 29, 2017. Born in Salt Lake City, Utah to John and Leone Irene Robinson Mather, G.R. dedicated his life to serving the Lord and anyone with whom he came in contact. He served an LDS mission to the Northern States where he met his future wife, Jean Wachsmuth. They were married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on May 16, 1952. After Jean's passing in March of 2008, he married Sally Heath Udy on August 14, 2009. G.R. is known for his work in the restaurant business, including The Tea Room at Auerbachs and the cafeteria at the State Capitol. He also loved driving a special needs bus for Murray School District. He enjoyed working in his garden, washing dishes and cars, The Music Man, and reading the scriptures. G.R. was dedicated to temple service, serving in many ways, including working in the baptistry each Tuesday morning for over 30 years. He served in several positions, including that of bishop, stake patriarch, and home teacher (which was his favorite). G.R.'s life of service has had a lasting impact on the lives of many. G.R. is preceded in death by his wife, Jean Wachsmuth; his parents; his siblings, J. Lynden Mather (Priscilla), June Engar (Byron), and Janice Moffat (Ralph), and daughter-in-law Kristi (Jeff) Mather. He is survived by his wife, Sally; his children Jeff (Mary) Mather, Cindy (Terry) Scharman, Kurt (Jamie) Mather, Rodney, and Amy (Trent) Thatcher. He is also survived by his 16 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Sally's children include Michelle (Rob), Levi, Derek (Brenda), and Dustin, 8 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Monday, May 8, 2017 at 12p.m. at the Cottonwood 4th Ward, 5565 S. Neighbor Lane. Viewings will be held at the ward Sunday, May 7, 2017, from 6-8p.m. and again Monday, May 8, 2017 from 10:30-11:45a.m. prior to funeral services. Interment will be at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S. In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations be made to the LDS Missionary fund or the Utah Food Bank.
