Donald Ray McDowell

1927 ~ 2016

Donald Ray McDowell was born August 13, 1927, in Jacksonville, Florida. Son of James Jay Holland and Winnie May Lord. He passed away peacefully at his home, June 11, 2016 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

He was an amazing man, with a quiet spirit. Loved his family with all his heart. He loved serving the Lord and was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day-Saints.

He studied music education and accounting at the University of Florida and graduated from Brigham young University. Don taught and conducted choral music in the Salt Lake School District. He had a beautiful tenor voice and had a great love for music.

Don Married Joyce Adele Rowell on September 11, 1948, later divorced. He has one son Michael, 4 grandchildren Geffray, Langston, Jordan and Griffin. 5 great grandchildren, James, Alden, Hanani, Braden and Lilah Jane.

He married Raija Irene Turunen in the Salt Lake City Temple on June 17, 1976.

We will remember Don with gratitude and love. He was an example of dignity and gracious living.

Don is survived by his eternal companion of 40 years, Raija. Son Michael (Dorothy) 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and wonderful sister-in-law Raili T. Hintze.

Graveside services will be held at the Salt Lake City Cemetery, Saturday June 18, 2016, at 11:00 AM. Enter from the 11th Avenue East entrance (Closest to Virginia Street). Condolences may be made at www.larkinmortuary.com.
