Fred H Westergard was born to Fermen J. Westergard and Lois Billings in Ogden, Utah on July 31, 1942. He was the third of five children and is survived by his four siblings and their spouses; Jim (Carol) Westergard of Alberta Canada, Ruth (Tony) Spanos of Ogden Utah, Kent (Jackie) Westergard of Far West Utah, and LoAnn (John) Perry of West Jordan Utah. He served an LDS mission to Brazil from 1961-1964, serving for 2 and a half years. He earned an Associates degree from Weber State University and a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Utah. He married Margaret (Peggy) Marshall in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on April 21, 1975. Fred and Peggy had one daughter, Wendy who resides in Carson City with her husband Michael Ashton and their three children Cole, Kora, and Jared. They also were blessed to invite a second daughter, a distant cousin, into their home. Cristy lives in West Valley with her husband Luis Duran and their four children Carmen, Laura, Rosa, and Sammy. They also opened their home to a foreign exchange student from Norway. Fred worked at Hercules in Magna, Utah for 25 years. He worked on a variety of projects including the Trident and Poseidon missiles for the US Navy, and the "Voyager" which was the 1st plane to fly around the world non-stop. Fred also worked for Partnet for several years as a Quality Assurance Engineer creating software to improve the purchasing process by the military. Fred was an active member of the Boy Scouts of America throughout his life, receiving the Wood Badge and Silver Beaver awards. He attended many National Boy Scout Jamborees and one International Boy Scout Jamboree in Holland. He also served for many years as a Family History Consultant for the LDS Church. Fred got his Ham Radio License in the early 90's and has been an active member of that community participating in many safety watch programs for the community and for the LDS church. Fred and Peggy served an Intra-city Mission in SLC September 2004-December 2006. He passed away on December 4, 2014 from a sudden heart attack. He is remembered fondly for his love of family history and attention to details.
Funeral Services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, December 10, 2014 at the Monument Park II LDS Chapel located at 1005 S. 2000 E. Salt Lake City, Utah preceded by a viewing from 10-11:30 a.m. An additional viewing will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary located at 2350 E. 1300 S. in Salt Lake City, Utah.
