Matthew C. Lords finished his earthly sojourn and returned to his Heavenly Father on July 20, 2017 from complications due to surgery.
Matt was born on May 28, 1964, in Salt Lake City, Utah to his loving parents, Beth Christianson Lords and Jack Lords. Matt attended Highland High school where he wrestled, played rugby, baseball, and was an All-State football player. He was awarded a football scholarship to Ricks College. Matt served a mission for the LDS church in Maracaibo, Venezuela. He graduated from the University of Utah. He married Holli Young in the LDS Salt Lake Temple on August 26, 1999.
Matt had a gift for loving people. He was described as a man with a good heart who would give you the shirt off of his back. He followed in his father's footstep as he coached Foothill Little League baseball and Highland Little League football. As a coach, he had a gift of inspiring and motivating young athletes to become their very best.
Matt loved fiercely and with a tender heart. He believed in family as he cheered for his loved ones, just as he will continue to do so from heaven.
Matt is survived by his dear and devoted wife Holli, and their two beautiful children, Luke and Lauren. The love he had for them is his greatest legacy. Honoring his life are his mother, Beth Lords, and his siblings, Jeff (Heidi) Lords, Nick (Keri) Lords, Leslie (Dave) Robbins, and Tony (Nina) Lords. He was adored by his many nieces and nephews. Survived by his in-laws, Ted and Jane Young. He is preceded in death by his beloved father, Jack Lords. What a grand reunion that must have been.
A viewing will be held Friday, July 28, 2017 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 S. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 29, at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing held from 10:00-10:45 prior to the service at the Foothill LDS Chapel, 1933 South 2100 East. Interment will occur at Larkin Sunset Lawn.
