Florence Grix Randall

1913 ~ 2015

Our sweet and most cherished mother, grandmother and great grandmother, Florence Grix Randall, returned to the arms of her eternal companion and loving family on June 16, 2015, after nearly 102 years of mortal life.

Florence, a woman of grace and beauty, was born October 16, 1913, in Ogden, Utah, to Samuel Jonathan Moroni and Ella Kerron Chandler Grix. She enjoyed a wonderful childhood with her two brothers and two sisters (Clyde, Arvel, Cleone and Mildred). Following her graduation from Ogden High School in 1931, she worked as a professional seamstress.

She married Clyde Nathaniel Randall on September 17, 1937, in the Salt Lake Temple. Together they reared four children. Florence and Clyde were devoted companions and she supported him in all his academic and professional pursuits, including his years as Dean of the College of Business at the University of Utah. Clyde passed away on December 13, 1970.

Florence was the consummate homemaker. As an accomplished seamstress, she made all her own clothes (which were always most stylish), as well as all of her children\s clothes. The aroma of freshly-baked cookies always filled her home, welcoming friends and family. She loved gathering the family together, especially for holidays of which Christmas was her favorite! Her tastefully decorated home reflected her many talents: sewing curtains, draperies and quilts, braiding rugs, upholstering furniture and painting beautiful landscapes in oil. She loved sharing her talents as she served others.

Family was the central focus of Florence\s life. She loved nothing more than spending time with her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. For years, she made nightgowns and pajamas for all her grandchildren which she lovingly gave them each Christmas. She supported and attended all her children\s and then grandchildren\s ball games, recitals, concerts and other special events. As an avid fan of University of Utah athletics, she attended games with her family for more than half a century and was honored several years ago as a \"Ute Super Fan.\"

Even though Florence has been a widow for more than forty-four years, she has been a pillar of strength in her faith and devotion to the Lord and to her ever-growing posterity. Firm in her testimony of our Savior and His restored gospel, she fulfilled her many church callings with love and dedication. She enjoyed serving in the Primary and Relief Society organizations for over fifty years.

Florence is preceded in death by her husband Clyde, her parents and siblings, as well as three grandsons: Ryan Foremaster Randall, Richard Kimball Lloyd, and an infant Lloyd son. She is survived by her four children: Reed (Marilyn) Randall, Boyd (Susan) Randall, Elaine (Kimball) Lloyd, Dale (Nila) Randall and a cherished legacy of sixteen grandchildren and sixty-three great grandchildren. Her first great great grandchild will arrive next month.

Our family gives special thanks to the entire staff at the Beehive Home in East Millcreek where Mother was treated like a queen with tenderness, love and dignity.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 22, 2015, at the East Millcreek Second Ward, 3750 South Hillside Lane (2560 East) at 11:00 a.m. with a viewing from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. A viewing will also be held on Sunday, June 21, 2015, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 East 1300 South.
