Sam Cayias

1931 ~ 2017

Our beloved father, husband and grandfather Sam Cayias, passed away September 25, 2017 after a courageous battle with Alzheimer's disease. Born March 13, 1931 to Peter Cayias and Lillian Farrell Cayias. Sam was a Crimson Club member of the University of Utah, where he graduated. He served our country proudly for 9 years in the US Army reserves, where he earned an honorable discharge. Sam was instrumental in the beginning and growth of Dunn Oil Inc., where he worked for more than 35 years. Discovering that retirement was not for him, he went to work for Crus Oil for another 20+ years.

Sam married Dareen Wiseman Cayias April 6, 1952 and went on to raise four girls and one boy. Sam lived a full and happy life with his family.

Preceded in death by his parents, and wife Dareen. Survived by his children, Shawnee Cayias, Wendy Cayias, Jill Thompson, Heidi Johnson (Dan), Sam Cayias Jr. (Darla), many grand and great grandchildren as well as his sister Tulla Giffis (Stanley). He is also survived by his current wife of 23 years, Deloris Cook Cayias.

The family would like to thank Tender Care for all their help and amazing support, especially Ty, Susan and Juan. Special thanks to Cottonwood Place Senior Living. Interment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 29, at 11 a.m. at Larkin Mortuary at 260 E South Temple, Salt Lake City. A visitation will be held Thursday from 6-8 pm at the same location, and Friday one hour prior to services.
