Marjorie Maryvine Talley Smart

1925 ~ 2017

Marjorie Maryvine Talley Smart, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep due to natural causes while at home on May 16, 2017. She was born June 5, 1925, in Bybee, Cocke County, Tennessee, to James Bernard Talley and Callie New Years Campbell. She was the sixth of eight children. She grew up in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains. Growing up during the Great Depression, Marjorie learned that family and caring for others was important. She was brought to Utah through missionaries who had served in Tennessee. This is where she met and married Verl Smart, the love of her life. They were married on her 22nd birthday, June 5, 1947. They were sealed and married in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Alongside her husband, Marjorie helped run Smartline Dairy in Sandy, Utah. When they weren't running the dairy, they enjoyed travelling together. She loved the open road and to "see as far as the eye could see." She especially enjoyed visiting her family and church history sights. Marjorie was a woman of great love and great strength who would always speak her mind. You always knew where you stood with her. She would always do for everyone else before she would do for herself.

She is loved and will be missed. We are grateful for the knowledge that we will see her again. As children of Heavenly Father, we know we will all be reunited.

Marjorie is survived by her daughter, Sheila Terecia Smart Chaston; grandchildren Dev Chaston, Callie Huntsman, Ty Chaston, Zen Chaston and Teah Hughes; brother Donald Talley; and sister Grace Memmott. Preceding her in death were her parents; husband, Verl George Smart; siblings James B. Talley Jr., Helen Pauline Talley Anders, Orson Woodrow Talley, Festus "P.D." Jennings Talley, and Garland "Mutt" Andrew Talley.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2017 at 11 a.m. at Larkin Sunset Gardens, 1950 E. Dimple Dell Rd. (10600 S.) in Sandy. Visitations will be held at the mortuary on Friday, May 19 from 6 to 8 p.m. and on Saturday from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. prior to services.
