Our warm and wonderful Jane Cannon King passed away from complications of pneumonia on June 10, 2018 at the age of 88. Jane was born in Washington, D.C., to John Q. Cannon and Anna Laura Stohl Cannon on July 13, 1929. She was a descendant of LDS First Counselor George Q. Cannon and in another line was a great-granddaughter of Emmeline B. Wells, suffragette and long-time President of the Relief Society.
Jane attended schools on the East Coast including Moorestown Friends (Quaker) in New Jersey and Wilson College in Chambersburg, PA, where she obtained her Bachelor's Degree. She also studied at the University of Utah from 1947-49. Jane majored in English and was a prolific writer and reader. In 1959, she married James W. King, a professor of African and Middle East Geography at the U of U. She was active in PTA, DUP, and the University of Utah Faculty Womens Club, of which she was president for a year. With her "professor's cottage" on Yale Avenue, she raised a wonderful family of four children: John, Katie, Vernon, and Tussy. She is survived by her husband Jim, her children and their spouses, 18 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and a sister.
Jane traveled with her husband to more than 60 countries around the world including Uganda, England, Russia, India, Ethiopia, Jordan, Malaysia, New Zealand, Brazil, Mexico, and parts of Europe. As a valiant member of the LDS Church, she and her husband served a mission at the temple in Washington, D.C., in 2000-2001. Closer to home, she loved the landscapes of Utah and was an avid skier, hiker, and camper.
Her life was very much centered on her family and she gave of herself to them on every occasion. She loved Jim with all of her heart and supported her children with their academics, music, and athletics. Jane had a zest for life, a great sense of humor, and was very charming. She was full of love, sweetness, and compassion for people from all walks of life. She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.

Services for Jane will be held at the Olympus Hills Ward, 4176 Adonis Drive (3950 East), at noon on Thursday, June 14th with a viewing before the services from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. There will also be a viewing at Larkin Sunset Lawn Mortuary, 2350 East 1300 South, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13th.
