Kay Draney Jenkins

1935 ~ 2018

Kay passed peacefully from mortality surrounded by his family on July 23, 2018. Kay was born February 4, 1935 to Royal and Mable Jenkins in Afton, Wyoming as the younger twin to Jay Jenkins. Kay survived scarlet fever, rheumatic fever, and inflammatory rheumatism at a young age, but he overcame this slow start to life and went on to be voted Senior Class President of Star Valley High School.

Kay was fortunate to find employment with General Electric, and later found employment in sales and was successful being featured on the cover of Look magazine. When this success required his moving to California, his concern for the environment in which his children would be raised motivated him to return to his proficiency as an electrician and he took a position working for the power company in Idaho. While in this employment, Kay experienced a tragic accident when he fell 30 feet from the pole he was working on, breaking his back and fracturing his ankle. Kay married in 1955 and was the father of nine children. This marriage ended following his accident.

In 1973 Kay had the pleasure of meeting a dancing partner in Ann Miner who loved to dance as much as he did. The two soon became friends and later married, adding another 6 children living whom he loved. With 15 living children, he always had something to talk about with anyone and everyone he met along his way. Kay loved to make everyone feel comfortable. Most of his children were involved with his carpet cleaning business from both sides of the family, providing them with something in common.

Kay loved to learn and share new and exciting things he discovered about the gospel. He seemed to shine his brightest when he could share something that others had not heard. This led to his serving as a tour guide in the Joseph Smith Memorial Building that he loved dearly and his famed reading the Book of Mormon daily. Kay passed out at home and was taken to the hospital and fell into a coma. He regained consciousness briefly and was asked what advice he had for his posterity. His answer was true to his life as he responded: "Read the Book of Mormon."

Kay was preceded in death by his parents Royal and Mable, brothers Jay and Lael, and daughter Lisa. Kay is survived by his wife Ann Miner Jenkins; siblings: Marlo Jenkins, Val D. Jenkins, Marva Cutler, Patti Draney, Darlene Schmidt, and Terry Jenkins; children Dave Miner, Jane Davis, De-De Miner Beck, Tom Miner, Carrie Miner, Steve Miner, Debi Biorge, Larry Jenkins, Russ Jenkins, Lori Ostler, Tami Pickett, Jackie Bailey, Mary Wenner, David Waldron, with 64 Grandchildren and 73 Great Grandchildren.

Friends and family are invited to attend his viewing Thursday July 26, 2018 at Larkin Sunset Lawn 2350 East 1300 South, Salt Lake City from 6 to 8 p.m. or Friday morning between 10:30 and 11:30 at his ward house located at 1930 So. 2100 East.
